The right to own firearms is guaranteed as long as one meets the requirements. We have the right to protect ourselves, our families, and our homes from danger. We have the right to repel the violent attack with deadly force if necessary.
This vast and sweeping freedom comes with an equally weighty responsibility to maintain the security of our firearms. Trigger locks, locking cases and cabinets all provide some protection from unauthorised use, but for serious, secure storage, you can’t beat a gun vault.
A gun vault is a safe with an interior that was designed for the storage of rifles and shotguns. Installed barrel rests provide stability for upright storage and shelves hold handguns and small items. Here are reasons to own a gun vault.
* Protect your Guns from Theft
Locking cases may limit the use of a weapon but can do nothing to prevent a burglar from walking off with your weapon. A gun safe, weighing several hundred pounds, bolted to a wall or floor, is nearly impossible to move.
Hardened solid steel construction with plates up to an inch thick protects against drills, saws and other power tools. Composite construction is a laminate of hardened steel plates and other materials. The incorporation of stainless steel into the composite does a good job of discouraging access with a cutting torch.
* Protect your Guns from Fire
Many models of weapon safe are fire rated. These safes have been tested to protect contents from heat damage in the event of a fire. Typical ratings may be 30 minutes or 60 minutes at 1600 degrees. Longer times and higher temperatures ratings provide the best protection.
* Protect your guns from children
If you have both kids and guns in the house, you have got to have a gun safe. Inquisitive and ingenious, children are likely to bypass any other deterrent you may use. Leaving your guns unsecured is not an option.
In some states keeping an unlocked firearm in the house with a child under 18 is a criminal offence. In a good percentage of unintentional firearm deaths and injuries, the gun was kept in the residence of the victim. You may have a gun to protect your family from criminals, but don’t forget to protect your family from your weapon.
* Keep your guns off criminals
If protecting yourself from loss due to theft isn’t enough reason for a safe, then think of what happens to that gun after it’s stolen. It is estimated that many stolen firearms are sold in undocumented transactions.
Call it black market, but know that crooks are purchasing those guns for use in criminal activity. Do you want your weapon to use in a violent crime simply because you were careless enough to allow people to steal it?
